Sex and Demons.

Two things I LOVE to write about. Ask anyone that knows me, I’m sure they’ll tell ya 😉

When I came back from my 10 year hiatus, I started out by writing straight erotica with a little horror on the side. It didn’t take me long to think, why not combine the two? It’s easy enough to find a demon that feeds on sex or lust, right? Little did I know that my perfect medium was only a click away…

Here’s my thinking: When is a human being the most vulnerable (not including illness)? In what situation is a human more likely to let go of their inhibitions? During what act do you have to trust your partner completely? So, when is the best time for horror to strike?

Um … yeah … exactly… When you’ve got your pants down. 😉

Try running away from a hungry demon with those sum’ bitches wrapped ’round yer ankles. Let’s see how far ya get …

I’m writing about the children of Lilith, lilin, or more commonly known as the Succubus. So, what is a succubus (plural succubi)? Well, she’s a female demon that normally appears in dreams. She takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sex.

Sounds nice, right? What man or woman can truly resist seduction? Who doesn’t like sex? Who doesn’t like erotic dreams? God knows I do … But, oh, wait, did I forget to tell you that repeated intercourse with a succubus may result in the deterioration of your health? Or even result in your death? Oops, my bad *shrugs*

In modern representations, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress; whereas, in the past, succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic.

I figured, why can’t I have all of the above? Why can’t she be beautiful, frightening, and demonic? Why can’t my succubus transform while in the throes of passion? Why can’t she scare the shit out of the completely clueless human she’s chosen to sustain her? Why not have her sprout horns, bat wings, and a tail? Why not have her eyes glow crimson? Why not have her tear her victim to shreds with her long obsidian claws or sharpened teeth? How much more satisfying could a feed be for a demon?

Last November, actually, make that August, I began writing my novel, L’Escalier du Diable. It’s still a work in progress. I’ve gotten to know my main, Jenna Prim, quite well. She’s still learning the ‘ropes’ and she is far from perfect. But I assure you, when I am done with her, she will be one badass demoness! I’ve definitely found the perfect monster for me! Writing about succubi is so much fun! You should try it sometime 😉

I had to dream up the perfect setting. Where would be the best place for my monster’s to feed? What could my Hell look like?I started researching a little about Dante’s Inferno, and read a little about the Seven Princes of Hell. I combined elements from the two, and came up with a BDSM club owned by the ‘Demon Prince of Lust’- Asmodeus.

Weird, right? Um … no! Think about it.

In BDSM, you need to have a high level of trust in your partner. So, what happens when your partner violates that trust? What happens when the ‘safe word’ is no longer ‘safe’? Believe it or not, in BDSM, the submissive sets the limits; the submissive decides what places can and can not be explored; the submissive has the ability to call a halt to the scene. What if the dominant is no longer paying attention to his/her submissive? What if they go beyond said submissive’s ‘hard limits’? It makes it all the more horrible, doesn’t it? So, it only made sense for me to make it a BDSM club …

Where do people get ‘picked up’ the most? Where can you go that you’re most likely to bring home a scrumptious morsel? Where do we go to drown our sorrows? Where is your mind most malleable due to mind altering chemicals (whatever they may be)? What if that club or bar was doubling as something else? Something far more sinister …

How about a BDSM club in the middle of Paris that is, in fact, the second level of hell? In my opinion, it’s the perfect place to lure in unsuspecting souls with its underground location (hard to escape). Beautiful demons, ambrosia-like drinks, a little S&M, dancing, sex … After being offered all of the above, what desperate person wouldn’t sell their soul?

Well, I better get back to it. *unpacking whips and chains* I have a deadline to make. *snaps riding crop against palm* This is SO much fun! I really can’t wait to share my world with you! *sinister grin*
